    Overview

Some trips are simply beautiful. And some stay in your memory for a lifetime. Meteora and the celebration of Saint Paraskevi in the mountain village of Metsovo is exactly such a rare experience.

    🏔 METEORA

Gigantic stone pillars created by nature millions of years ago. On their summits stand monasteries from the 14th century, seemingly floating between earth and sky. Meteora is unlike any other place in the world. When you stand on the edge of these cliffs and look down, a powerful feeling arises — as if the earth ends here and the sky begins. The space opens beneath your feet, the wind rises from the valley, and for a moment it feels like you could take a step… and fly. This is height. This is scale. This is the feeling of freedom. Meteora is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and here you truly understand why it is considered one of the most breathtaking places in Greece.

    🔥 JULY 25 — METSOVO

Then the road takes us to Metsovo — an old mountain village where traditions exist not for tourists, but for the people themselves. On this day the village celebrates the feast of Saint Paraskevi. Once a year old wooden chests are opened. From them come traditional costumes — embroidered with gold, heavy, historic garments carefully preserved in families and passed down through generations. Villagers gather in the streets. Music begins to play. Circles of traditional dancing start to form. A religious procession moves through the stone streets. The icon of Saint Paraskevi is carried, decorated with wreaths of fresh flowers, just as in the old Greek churches. Bishops, metropolitans and priests take part in the procession. Faith and tradition intertwine here so naturally that it is impossible to separate one from the other. And then the celebration truly begins. The music grows louder. The dance circles grow larger — one circle replacing another. Soon it becomes impossible to remain just a spectator. You want to step closer, take someone's hand and become part of the circle. You are no longer watching. You are inside it. The streets fill with the aromas of authentic mountain cuisine. Lamb is roasted on a spit, traditional dishes are prepared, and homemade wine is poured. This is not a “festival for tourists.” It is a celebration for the locals. And that is exactly why it feels so real.
