Excursion Details

  Departure should be early—the earlier, the better. It’s cooler, there are fewer people, and you’ll get back in time for dinner at the hotel.
• 
  On the way to Meteora we’ll make a stop where you can enjoy your morning coffee and breakfast if you didn’t have it at the hotel. The drive from Thessaloniki with the break takes at most 3 hours, but along the route you’ll see plenty of beautiful sights, including the world-famous peak of Mount Olympus, home of Zeus. After that, we’ll race through tunnels to the Tempi Gorge.

  There you’ll find the Church of St. Paraskevi, which you can visit by prior arrangement.
• 
  We’ll also cross the city of Larissa, the Thessalian plain, and arrive in Kalambaka, nestled at the foot of dramatic cliffs crowned by magnificent monasteries.
• 
  Here you can visit an icon-painting workshop where, in just 15 minutes, you’ll get an engaging demonstration of how icons are created. You’ll even try applying real gold leaf. And if you don’t find the perfect icon, you can commission one of any design or complexity.
• 
  We’ll stop for photos at the most scenic viewpoints and visit two monasteries, including hidden and secret spots. Then we’ll descend via a beautiful mountain road through the village of Kastraki into Kalambaka for lunch, where you can taste the most delicious lamb and homemade village wine.
• 
  It will be a full day of discoveries and impressions—you won’t have time to get tired or bored!

And then, after a pleasant fatigue, we’ll head back! The road will fly by quickly; you can rest, sleep, or chat with me. You won’t even notice how we return to the hotel. And there, you’ll start to miss Meteora!!

This excursion can be combined (with an overnight stay) with trips to Corfu, Athens, Ioannina, Lefkada, Zagorochoria, and more.
